Module 7 linked

Hi, all. I didn’t realize that several of you were following the links from the “module” page above, rather than just looking at the sidebar here on the right, and I didn’t realize until someone pointed it out that it wasn’t linked on that module page. Now it is.

Given that some of you have been waiting on this, the deadline for module seven (and consequently, for the final pitch) is moved to Wednesday at midnight. You may have already gotten a message about outages on Blackboard on Monday.

While I’ve provided feedback to some of you on Module 6, I’m still fighting to get through those. Sorry for the delay.

Some examples

Here are a couple of the pitches from last semester. Shouldn’t be taken as models, but can provide a feel for ways of completing the pitch:

Slowly getting up to speed

Hi, folks. Just quick note to let you know I’ll be a little slow on getting back on your self-evals. Just back into town after a long trip. Will get back to you all as soon as possible, but it may not be until Thursday…

Silent Bob Too Fat

Talk about naked conversations. It seems that Kevin Smith was booted from a Southwest flight for being “unsafely” obese. As someone who is really fat and travels on planes all the time, I can’t even imagine being kicked off a plane because I am too fat. It would suck so much that I won’t fly Southwest, just because of the risk.

(I’ll leave aside the longer argument. It goes something like: I totally get I should pay for the space I take up, and would happily pay 25% more for a seat that is 25% wider with 25% more leg room. But to get that, I have to pay more like 250% more, which makes no sense. It doesn’t make sense that I should have to pay for two seats if I’m only using 18″ in a 17.2″ wide seat.)

Of course, Smith has been twittering up a storm about the incident. Naturally Southwest has tried to appease him, to little avail.

This isn’t, though a story of the little guy against a giant corporation. Smith is… well, he’s a big guy. And, as he notes, doesn’t have a lot of shame. Nonetheless, Twitter does give him a direct line to a lot of people that–even as a celeb–he would otherwise have to work to get hold of.

Tonight in SL

Just a quick reminder: I’ll be in Second Life tonight at 8pm EST (5pm SLT), or a few minutes after, for about 45 minutes. Search for NMC Orientation island on the map, or friend me (“Zeno Blackflag”) and I can teleport you. Hope to see some of you there.
